The Yang Sing Restaurant is a Manchester institution. When the owners decided to open a boutique hotel they chose a 120-year-old, Grade II listed former cotton dyeing warehouse and began transforming it into the Yang Sing Oriental.To add to the building’s unique features, this high-end boutique hotel has been given a classic 1930s Shanghai opulence, inspired by the cultures of Japan, China, India and Thailand.

After designing the logo, I developed the butterfly design after discovering The Butterfly Lovers, a classic Chinese love story similar to Romeo and Juliet in which, in the end, the two lovers end up together forever as butterflies, this was used throughout the hotel.
